The Obsession That Became Objection

With the Internet buzzing about Obsession movie, and us Cinephiles with a soft spot for cult classics and hard core spot for theater experiences, we were quickly obsessed as well and the movie found its way to our watchlist.

One thing that caught my attention was Curry Barker's appreciation for The Invisible Man 2020 , and how super underrated  he felt the movie is, and we  already like this young talented Director.   πŸŽ₯ πŸ’“

Invisible Man's theatre experience was wonderful. Sometimes, we are simply drawn to  stories without needing to read a hundred reviews...

πŸ‘‡why ?

Give us a movie that has stepped straight out of the pages of an H.G Wells' novel or Mary Shelley's Classic like Frankenstein,  we're already half way to box-office.  The screenplay was intelligent  and Elizabeth Moss' powerhouse performanceπŸ’“

Be it the interview scene where her resume goes missing, or while narrating to her sister and friend about her husband, while trying to prove her sanity each time but terribly failing only to be left alone in her own battle but still guided by her strong intuition and guts, and not giving up, wow, her range as an ActorπŸ‘ !  Went for Invisible Man, but came back praising Elizabeth Moss's phenomenal performance. πŸ‘’

That time of the year is finally here again. Project Hail Mary  πŸ’— ,  Michael , Nolan's Odyssey, a Non-Jurassic park with movie with Dinosaurs scheduled for July, He-man already out (and watched :) ), Spielberg's Disclosure Day  πŸ’— , The G.O.A.T of Cinemas who introduced us to E-T πŸ›Έ, War of the worlds , Close Encounters of the third kind πŸ‘½and Jurassic Park πŸ¦• over three decades ago, yet here we are in 2026, still treating them like a comfort watch. Main audience being Baby Boomers and Millenials as a matter of fact, correct me if am wrong.

AlienProject Hail Mary

A small part of me is hoping Ridley Scott gives Sigourney Weaver and Jonesy, the cat one more adventure soon.. 🐈

Then came the icing on the cake, another Spider-Man release.

For many millennials, Spiderman films  has its way of triggering strong nostalgia.

E-T
The trailers show a slightly worn-out, burdened Peter Parker, and judging by the amount of edits flooding my feed, many of us seem
to relate a little too well. Perhaps that’s why Spider-Man has always resonated with us.

Spiderman Into the Verse, a film that just didn't redefine Spiderman , but the ground breaking animation left us all in awe  !
The iconic and therapeutic Post Malone and Swae lee's  'Sunflower' is a track that we keep coming back to !.

By now we have all experienced how a music, movie, a scent, or even a taste can instantly transport us back to a different chapter of life ? For Cinephiles, movies are our time machines, carrying us back to moments, memories and reminding us about certain significant phases of life.
Homecoming is one such cute vibed Time Machine for me personally <3

A quick theatre click

Fast forward to June 2026., on our way to witness Bear breaking the wish-willow. :D

We finally picked a weekend show at a famous multiplex right in the heart of the

city, a timing that worked perfectly for both of us.

By the time we got there, Chennai’s summer had already done its best to melt us.

We’d battled traffic, parked the car, and were operating in that peculiar state of

exhaustion where your body is present, but your soul is running on low battery.

Unlike the usual mall multiplex experience, this theatre had the parking and ticket check right at the entrance itself.

We showed the Security In-charge our booking while still parking. πŸš™

Without missing a beat, in the most sincere, dutiful, and professional tone imaginable, he looked at the screen and said:

"Objection . 2 PM.” πŸ’.
A man probably in his mid or forties standing in the Chennai heat, directing four wheelers, checking tickets to make sure parking space is not occupied unnecessarily may be as its a mere multiplex.

The active versions of us, the ones with energy and functioning brain cells might have gently corrected him.

Not to make fun of him, of course. Come on, we’re grown adults., so that Others wouldn't make fun of this hardworking Man.

Instead, both of us simply stared for a second and replied:

“Yes. 2 PM. It’s  Obsession.”

And that was that.

No laughter.

No correction.

No discussion.

A few seconds later, we looked at each other and unofficially agreed:

“ Objection dhaan inimel.”

(It’s Objection from now on.)

Somewhere between the summer heat, the coconut water we’d already consumed, and the general fatigue of being human,

we had entered what I can only describe as our “Rafiki phase” from  The Lion King .

Millennials have reached the Rafiki phase :D ?! I am witnessing.

That state where we let the universe function exactly as it wishes while you quietly observe from your little corner of it.

A movie called  Obsession  had become  Objection .

And honestly, who were we to interfere?
We walked in, bought our water bottles, settled into our seats, and spent the next few hours exactly the way theatre kids always have,
chatting, laughing, discussing random things, and happily disappearing into a story while the outside world faded away for a while.

And somewhere in the background, I like to think that security guard was still directing people toward  Objection.

Next show.
